Sri Hanuraga dan Karawaci

"Sri Hanuraga dan Karawaci" is a work that explores the temporal and timbral organization of two different corpora using machine-learning algorithms. The process became rather heuristic. After hours of hyperparameters experimentation, a fixed set was determined, leaving room for compositional parameters to be human-controlled intuitively. The corpora were recordings of an after-hour atmosphere in an area in Indonesia called Karawaci and a recording of a pianist—Sri Hanuraga—improvising on the piano.

A Sketch of Two

“A Sketch of Two” is a work for bassoon and laptop, commissioned by Christoph Karl Wichert, a bassoonist. The piece results from several discussions and tryouts between the composer and the bassoonist, which reflects the title. It also represents the interaction between the bassoonist and the program, creating a sketch and proposing new ideas every time. The music starts with a pitch that is to be determined by the bassoonist based on what he thinks is suitable for the day and the venue. It then progresses into more of a fixed score and ends with an exchange of ideas between the bassoonist and the program. This structure suggests the process of creating an unended sketch within a fixed framework, forming a cloud of ideas and, in this context, sound.

A pair of music, a pair of ears.

Clipping Dream

Clipping Dream is a distorted sonic journey that emphasizes details in small-chunk iterations. Despite being destroyed, its debris still lights a hope. Digital clipping is extensively used throughout the work as the main method of timbre alteration. The structure is built intuitively by letting the distorted substances affect the mind while working on this piece. The result is then spread into space, introducing a new dimension of the sonic journey by letting it control its movement by itself.

Music, Female, Hipster

This work focuses on bringing the so-called lo-fi materials to an 'expensive' environment, declaring the non-existence of sound quality, rather a reason behind every 'sound.' The materials are personal archives gathered from smartphone and cheap camera recording. It presents an explorative and distorted sonic discourse, diffused into a multichannel system. This work was developed during the CMS Residency at Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität.

Mata dan Senar

All sound from the instruments are amplified, live-processed, and diffused to a multichannel system. From the audience's perspective, the comfortable state of watching a performance on one direction to the stage is confronted by the sound spatialization.

Two cultures, one soul.

Mga Alon sa Batangas

A site specific sound installation intended to be presented by the beach. This is an impression from an all-night-little-talk with young composers by the beach of Batangas during the Asian Composers League 2015. This kind of talk recharges me to full.
